New Zealand women’s football team filmed by drone

On 24 July 2024, French authorities detained a Canadian women’s football staff member in Saint-Etienne on suspicion of filming New Zealand women’s training with a drone! And the Canadian women’s football team is about to face the New Zealand women’s football team in the Olympics.

The staffer used a drone to secretly film the rival New Zealand women’s football team training during training. The Canadian Olympic Committee released a statement, ‘We are shocked and disappointed by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s insistence on fair play. We sincerely apologise to Team New Zealand, all affected players and the New Zealand Olympic Committee.’ Both sides are discussing next steps with the IOC, the Paris Organising Committee and FIFA.
